What casting in Dublin actually looks like

Dublin and Wicklow carry most of what shoots in Ireland, which means the work is real but the queue is short and largely invisible. A great deal of Dublin casting never reaches a public notice at all: a director casts from a film-school network, a casting director goes back to people they have already seen, a producer asks an agent for four names. What you see advertised is the portion that had to go looking.

That has two consequences worth acting on. The advertised roles are worth applying for quickly, because the window is usually days rather than weeks. And being findable between calls matters more than it does in a bigger market, because a lot of Dublin casting starts with someone searching rather than someone posting.

Most first roles are supporting-artist work

Supporting artist — extra — work on funded film and television is the steadiest paid entry point here, and it is genuinely useful: you learn how a set runs, which is knowledge you cannot get from a class. It will not lead directly to a speaking part, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something, but it puts you in the room and on the books.

Self-tape first is now the norm
