Child Safeguarding Statement

Version 1, 29 October 2026. This statement covers CastMe Classrooms (classrooms.castme.ie), the part of CastMe used by children aged 13 to 15. It will be reviewed by 29 April 2027, and sooner if anything changes.

1. What CastMe Classrooms is

CastMe Classrooms is a free online space where 13 to 15 year olds write scenes, plan short films, draw and try out music ideas. They can use it on their own device without an account, in a class set up by their teacher, or in a private space a parent has agreed to. It is run by CASTME STUDIOS LIMITED, company number 825478, Ballyhea, Charleville, Co. Cork.

2. Our commitment

Children’s safety comes first in every decision about CastMe Classrooms. We follow Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children and the Children First Act 2015.

3. The relevant person

Our relevant person and designated liaison person for child safeguarding is Seán Meaney, director. Contact: [email protected].

4. How the service is designed to keep children safe

  • No contact with strangers. Children can only see their own class, and only after their teacher lets them in. A private space at home has no contact with anyone.
  • No messages or comments. Classmates can react to shared work with four set reactions. There is no chat.
  • Nothing public. Work is never shown outside the class, and nothing reaches the class until the teacher approves it.
  • As little personal information as possible. Children use a nickname. We don’t ask for their real name, email, date of birth or a photo of them. Pictures they add are cleaned of location and camera details.
  • No AI and no advertising.
  • Adults are checked in. Only a teacher can let a child into a class; only a parent can agree to a private space.

5. Risk assessment

Risk of harmHow we reduce it
An adult contacting a childNo messaging, no public profiles and no search for children. Children only see their own class.
Someone who is not a student joining a classA class code only lets someone ask. The teacher sees the nickname and decides, and can remove anyone at once.
Bullying between studentsNo comments. The teacher approves anything shared. Students can report a piece or a classmate to their teacher.
Harmful or inappropriate contentTeacher approval before anything is shared. Reports go to the teacher; anything marked unsafe also comes to us.
A child sharing personal informationNicknames only. Students are told not to use their surname, email or phone number, and nicknames that look like them are refused.
A child under 13 using the serviceThe age check turns them away. Under 13s can only take part through a teacher in a primary class.
Someone pretending to be a parentThe parent must answer from the email address given, and confirm that they are the parent or guardian and are 18 or over. They can see and delete everything.

6. If there is a concern

  • A child or young person: tell your teacher, use “Tell my teacher” in Classrooms, or tell an adult you trust. You can call Childline free on 1800 66 66 66 or text 50101.
  • Anyone: email [email protected] with “Safeguarding” in the subject. We read these first.
  • A child in immediate danger: call the Gardaí on 999 or 112.

When a report reaches us, the relevant person checks it the same day, contacts the teacher or parent, and takes the content down or removes access if needed. Where there is reasonable concern that a child has been, is being or is at risk of being harmed, we report it to Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, and to An Garda Síochána where a child is in immediate danger. We keep a record of each concern and what we did.

7. Our people

Anyone who works on CastMe Classrooms on our behalf reads this statement and follows it. We don’t have access to children’s private spaces unless a parent asks us to help or there is a safeguarding concern.

8. Teachers and schools

Schools using CastMe Classrooms keep their own child safeguarding statement and procedures. Teachers are responsible for who is in their class and for what they approve, and they get every report from their class.
